Make Money From Your Blog - Adsense
The majority of people that own a blog or intend to start one do so to hopefully make some money from writing about a subject they love to talk about or have a lot of knowledge to share.
The most popular method of making money from your blog is to input adsense into the page. When people click on an advert you get the money - this is pretty cool but the issue is, the clicks can be worth such a minimal amount - sometimes only $0.01 - When you consider that most blogs will need on average 50 vistiors per click.
This means you have to get a hell of a lot of visitors to make adsense work for you. Now there are exceptions to this - being that some keywords pay higher than others - generally these keywords are so popular though you will struggle to get your blog anywhere that people would find it to click on the advert in the first place. So you need to find a balance with the competition Vs the potential click value - this is where niche topics come into play.
A good niche is basically an area of knowledge or information that people are interested in but is no over saturated. For example this blog is not in an ideal niche - I write it because I like to andn ot so much for money as the competition for SEO and computers is huge - take a search on Google and you will see how many “make money online” blogs there are or how many SEO and computer blogs there are.
A niche here would be to pick one area that you can talk about and become an expert in your field - for example a niche in SEO might be link building or even anchor text - I doubt these would provide high paying keywords though!
You also have to consider the likelihood of people clicking adverts - if people are coming to look for wordpress themes for example - the chances are they are not looking to purchase anything - so they are unlikely to click an advert if it is selling something - on the other hand if you have a blog about a particular computer reviews then the chances are, if they read you review and see an advert for the said computer - they may click - this second example is more likely to become a more profitable blog.
Adsense can work for some, but in my opinion, for most, you will be lucky to ever make more than $100 per month unless you have several successful sites. Still - some of you may be happy with this kind of cash.
By far, the people who make the most money from their blogs and websites are the affiliate marketers. These are similar to adsense but generally you get paid per purchase. This can lead to a percentage of the sale commission. If you are successful in doing this your monthly income could be $xxxx ’s or more.
I will talk more about my current experiences with affiliate marketing next time but for now you may like to consider Market Leverage - this is a new program with some fantastic commission offers and referral opportunities.

I do not believe starting a blog for financial gain alone is a good idea even if you are interested in the subject. This article is very realistic. Unless you are getting a lot of traffic you will not make that much money. If a blogger is blogging simply for the joy of blogging that are much more not to get frustrated and give up.

I still think there’s a gap in many markets for an *honest* review blog. So many reviews you read are just thinly-veiled promotions. It may seem counter-intuitive but I think honest “warts and all” review sites will make more money in the long term, as their readers will trust their recommendations more - so they’ll get higher conversions for the things they genuinely recommend

John, your comment is true to some extent, but I believe you can make a blog with an aim to make money from it but at the same time also provide quality content to your visitors.

The only way to make money with google adsense, is to get unique visitor everyday. If possible, minimum at 200 unique visitors then we can earn something from adsense.

To increase traffic and earn money from adsense, there a lot of way to increase traffic, such as from organic traffic. The organic traffic tend to have better conversion compare to other medium. I have try a lot of way to increase traffic such as from video marketing, but the conversion is very poor compare to organic traffic. But one more important is the niche.

I think you’re right, the people making the most money from blogs are really those affiliate marketers. It seams it’s getting harder and harder to make money with adwords.

Great post. One thing i know is if you have a product your selling your better off not having adsense on that page. It will take sales away and you make less money. You can make some money with adsense but most people never make a living like alot of sites say you can.

That is a great article thanks for your share. I agree writing blogs strictly for financial gain is not the best practice, however having a few links shouldn’t be frowned upon, I mean hey we have to pay for hosting, and time producing this information right, so little payback is good?
The problem is the websites out there that are designed by software programs, and scraping web directories for rehashed materials…I think most of us know that unless you provide some good content you aren’t going to get visitors anyway.
Not a fan of “adsense blogging” particularly because it is not a long term business solution…

Thanks for your insight. I have to agree with you ithat the best source of revenue is through affiliate ads vs. adsense, particularly as you progress in your online experience. To the point made by JoeyB, automated content posting blogs dilute the value of blogging but it’s nice to find oringial content blogs and I support them if I find an ad for a product I like.

I think if your blog is not popular it is better to sell the advertising space direct to affiliates and not use adsense. Because if someone clicks a few times on adsense you get banned for a lifetime.

adsense is the ‘welfare’ of making money online. honestly, if you cant make money with adsense you simply aren’t dedicated or patient enough. farming adsense is easy, it’s just tedious and can take a while before you hit a good paying niche.
in the meantime you build up a large farm of sites/blogs that each bring in 10-20 cents a day. by the time you have hundred your making a few bills a month. then the biggie hits and its easy street.

Most people think they just make a blog put adsense on it and the money comes rolling in. The fact is it takes alot of work to make any money. Sometimes your better off selling your own product you should make more per sale than adsense.

I have to agree with you. Most people make more money with a affiliate program than with adsense. A few sales of something that pays you $10 or more will be alot more than most people will get from alot of adsense clicks.

In general, the big Adsense earners are the bloggers who create blogs specifically for Adsense (ie: not just having the adverts appearing on blog’s side bar, but actually building the site around the adverts. A friend of mine has set up a safari site, with the premise being that it displayes various operators according to the region. These “operators” are in fact Adsense ads, and the clicks he generates are thus huge.

Oh, also forgot to mention, it’s important from a publisher (website owner) point of view, that you target expensive phrases, as these will be the ones which deliver good returns on Adsense. Sounds simple, but many seem to overlook this fact.

I think you need some products to seell also. Adsense is hard ot make alotof money on. Some people will jusy give up when they earn under $1 a day or less. Try some affiliate programs related to site you could make alot more money.

I see some people make sites for nothing but adsense and they are not making the money they could. Try to find services or products related to sites topic and you should make more money.

I agree with you that the majority of people making money with blogs are doing so as affiliates rather than adsense but in my case, the opposite is true. I also agree that it makes sense to target high paying keywords but NOT always the most competitive ones . Get some good article spinning and submission software like here mass article control review to turn other top articles with high paying keywords into original pieces of work, then drip feed onto an adsense-ready wordpress blog with a free theme, then start link building via forums, article marketing and other FREE systems with your ‘anchor text’ your target keywords, . I usually find that adding 30-40 one way high PR links per week usually gets my blog on the front page of google in a few weeks then the traffic and clicks follow.

Google adsense is a nice way to earn a bit of extra money for free from your website. You basically sign up for an adsense account through Google. If your site gets accepted they will send you an e-mail to confirm this.

Great article. Although you are correct it is difficult to break into this market, I believe the biggest problem is that most people don’t know enough of the fundamentals to make an impact anyway.we need to find those untapped niches or focus on the long tail to carve out our little slice of a certain market.

Headlines do make a big difference. I like the paragraph about trying out different headlines to see which turns out to be the most appealing. I do the same thing when writing articles, just in a different way. I use Google trends to compare the most searched terms, that way I can write article titles that more people are looking for on average.
